What is Self-Care in your 30's and Why is it Important?

Reflecting back on my 30s, I realize just how transformative that decade was. It’s a time when you’re juggling so much—your career, your relationships, your dreams—and somewhere in the middle of it all, it’s easy to put yourself last. I’ve been there. But if I learned anything, it’s that self-care isn’t just a luxury; it’s a necessity.

The 30s are a powerful decade for building habits that nourish and restore you, so you can show up as your best self—not just for others, but for you. Self-care is about creating small, meaningful rituals that keep you grounded, no matter how busy life gets.

Let’s get real about what works.

Perfecting Your Skincare Routine

As we age, our skin’s needs evolve. In your 30s, 40s, or beyond, it's not about chasing anti-aging perfection, but about nurturing skin that’s glowing, hydrated, and healthy.

Here’s where to start with a skincare routine that works:

  • SPF is non-negotiable. Apply in the morning and reapply every 4-5 hours to protect from UV damage.
  • Exfoliate regularly. Use a gentle scrub that not only exfoliates but also moisturizes your skin (our sugar scrubs are perfect for this).
  • Hydrate both inside and out. Drink plenty of water and lock in moisture with a nourishing body butter or oil.
  • Don’t underestimate sleep. Aim for 7-8 hours of restful sleep, and watch your skin thank you for it.

Consistency is key, and taking care of your skin is a gift that pays off in both the short and long term.

Rituals That Ground You

One of the most effective ways to feel more centered and at peace is through rituals—small, intentional acts that help create stability in an often chaotic world.

For me, the simple act of lighting a candle and using my favorite body butter at night helps me transition into a calming space. Just a few minutes of mindfulness can do wonders.

Creating a ritual doesn’t require hours of your time. It can be as simple as a few moments to breathe deeply, meditate, or enjoy your favorite cup of tea.

Friendships: The Real Glow-Up

Friendships in your 30s and beyond are more important than ever. As life becomes busier, it’s easy to let relationships slip through the cracks—but staying connected is key to feeling balanced and supported.

Here’s how to make it work:

  • Reconnect with old friends by reaching out with a simple message or setting up a regular coffee date.
  • Make time for quality time, even if it’s just a quick check-in.
  • Be open to meeting new people by joining groups or attending events that align with your interests.

Friendship isn’t just about shared memories—it’s about being there for each other through the highs and lows of life.

Movement That Feels Good

Exercise isn’t about forcing yourself to work out. It’s about moving in a way that feels good to you and boosts your energy. Whether it’s dancing in your living room, walking outdoors, or doing yoga, make time for movement that leaves you feeling strong and alive.

The best exercise is the one you enjoy, so find what makes you feel your best and stick with it.

Treat Yourself (Without the Guilt)

Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Whether you’re booking a spa day, enjoying a cozy bath, or treating yourself to a favorite product, indulgence is a key part of well-being.

And you don’t need to wait for a special occasion to treat yourself! Life is the occasion.

Disconnect to Reconnect

In today’s digital age, it’s easy to get caught in a cycle of constant screen time. But carving out moments to disconnect is a powerful form of self-care.

Try putting your phone on airplane mode for an hour or two, read a book, take a walk, or simply enjoy a quiet moment.

Your mind will thank you.

A Gentle Reminder

No matter where you are in life, self-care is an ongoing practice. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about giving yourself permission to rest, reconnect, and nurture yourself. By prioritizing these habits, you’ll find more balance, peace, and joy in everything you do.
